With the pistons painted them silver then glazed in a brown black mix pushing the brush towards the one end to simulate oil residue that may gather on a piston naturally leaving the other end silver.
With the chimney I started with a gun metal layering up ro steel then using some matte paints (black and brown for now others sublte colours will be added tomorrow) started to shade and add some rusting this use of matte paints to shade helps to increase the contrast of the shine of the metal in the light and the dullness of shadows.
